The active chats counter gives you a real-time view of how many unread active conversations you currently have. This article explains exactly how the counter works, what triggers it to go up or down, and what it means for your daily workflow.
What is an Active Chats Counter?
The active chats counter is a live notification badge visible in the left side menu in Carerix, next to your WhatsApp inbox. It shows the number of unread active conversations assigned to you at any given moment. The counter is personal, so it only reflects conversations that belong to you, the logged-in user.
A conversation is considered active when there is an ongoing exchange between you (or an automation acting on your behalf) and a candidate or contact. A conversation that has ended, been closed, or is waiting with no reply from the candidate's side is not reflected in the counter.
When does the counter change?
The counter increases in three situations:
1. A candidate or contact replies to your manual conversation
When you own a conversation with a candidate and that candidate sends a reply, the counter goes up by one. This applies to any active WhatsApp conversation you have started or taken ownership of. The counter stays like that until you open and read the message.
2. A candidate or a contact replies to an automated message
When an automation sends a WhatsApp message on your behalf, such as an outreach or follow-up triggered by an event in Carerix, and the recipient replies, that reply counts as an active conversation. The counter increases so you can monitor the thread or decide whether to step in personally.
3. An inbound message arrives from a registered candidate or a contact
When a candidate or contact sends you an unsolicited inbound message and they are already registered in Carerix, the system recognises the owner of that record and routes the notification to that person. The owner's active chats counter goes up to signal that a new message is waiting for their attention.
What should you do when the Counter goes up?
The counter is a prompt to take action. Depending on the type of conversation, you can:
Read and respond if the candidate is replying to your manual outreach.
Monitor or take over if the reply came in through an automated flow and the conversation needs a human touch.
Respond to an inbound contact if the message was unprompted and the candidate is already in your Carerix database.
Opening and reading the conversation will clear it from your counter.
π‘ Key Things to Remember
The counter is per user. You only see your own unread active conversations.
Both manual and automated conversations count toward the number.
Inbound messages from registered candidates or contacts are routed to the owner of that record.
